| Level 17 - Ambuscade 1. You start here. Timing is critical ... provided you don't loaf around inside the elevator for too long at the start, then as you open the elevator door you'll see a patrol of SS marching through the locked doorways in the large room in front of you. But once they leave this area, they won't be gone for long - they'll be back! Use the time you have to break some of those stone columns nearby to stock up on ammo if need be, and then grab that Artefact of Invulnerability!!! Now you're ready for them when they do return. 2. The blood key is located in this room - grab it! 3. I hate it when you get stuck in an area without a key, don't you? So, if you've rushed out into the corridor here and found yourself locked in and stuck without the blood key, there's a spare one hidden here. 4. Ahhhh ... looks like it's time for some fun!!! Throw the switch, and watch the barrels explode (and that poor SS guy with his back to you cop a nasty surprise!) And then, once you've played with the switches here and know what they do, it's time to proceed to the next step ... 5. Egads!!! A horde of SS and THREE Ultraclones!!! This is the ambush that the level derived its name from! Now unless you're brave (or just plain stupid), you'll realise this is a firefight you can't hope to win! Firefight? Did someone say "fire"? Ahah!!! Yes - brains > brawn! Once you've opened the door to this area and these guys are all coming for you, proceed back to the switch at point 4, and be quick about it too as they'll be hot on your heels! Throw the switch,and then peek through the window near the switch and relax ... it's fun watching what seemed an impossible task being dealt with so easily, isn't it? But, don't get too cocky! Just watch those Ultraclones, after all, you never know if one of them may just get through! 6. The next port of call is to here, where you'll find the bronze key. There's a rocket turret guarding the hallway leading to this office, so dodge any rockets as you head for here (and remember that the rockets can also eliminate any enemies you may encounter in the hallway should they be caught between you and the rocket turret - you can save ammo this way). 7. The bronze key will allow you to open a number of doors in the level and will make for some shorter travelling distances. Most importantly though, it will allow you to access this room here, where the gold key is stored. 8. You can access the area secured by the gold key here (or you can proceed to point 5 if you wish and do the same). 9. The elevator key! 10. The exit lift - on to level 18! 11. And for those who are into finding secret areas, this point here leads on to a series of nice little goodies :) |
