Subject: Ehh..

For now... No... I will create other founders in
the future... but they will have to prove that they
aren't in it for power, that they can take critisism and
that they won't be spitefull when things don't go
their way. I don't think that it's positive if someone
deletes a member because they don't like something
they've said or done. I didn't like seeing the fighting
in other clubs and message areas so Die Hard Wolfers
was formed.. Anyone may join...

As for
turning it over to the others that founded RW (Real
Wolfers for those not in the loop) This isn't real
wolfers. RW is still alive and for those that enjoy the
fighting will hopefully be there for sometime to come, but
I'm tired of being a member one minute and not the
next because someone throws a tempertantrum. Everyone
kept saying they wanted an open club, yet no-one did
anything about it. Well, here it is...

The rules
are simple:

No Flames
No Foul
Language

and not so much of a rule but more of a
guidline:

Try to stay on Topic: ie: Related to Wolfenstein and
the Wolf engine...

I hope you all can respect
that.

Subject: Wolf 3D and Spear Hint Books

Hi all,

I was wondering, how many Wolf fans out there have the original hint books for Wolf and SOD? After seeing some level maps on Daniel's Wolf3D page ( http://pigsdomain.com/wolf3d.html ), I thought he had a good idea there, and dug out my old manuals and hint books which have a wealth of interesting anecdotes, maps etc from the Id crew on these two games (they used a capital I in id back then).

Of course everyone can view the maps with Mapedit/Floedit, but it would be interesting if the stuff in these now unavailable hint books could somehow be made available on a web site. It'd require a little bit of typing, or scanning if anyone wanted to display the maps in the way they are in the books.

If anyone's interested, let me know. I've asked Daniel from Daniel's Wolf site if he wants me to send him a copy, and if anyone wants to seriously undertake such a project then I will be happy to send a copy their way (can only do it for one person though as postage cost would be prohibitive otherwise).

3 of us chatted about the new game just released on Schabbs Site. From the looks of it, and what we were able to play so far... Pretty good...

I've posted the Chat in the Calendar as a weekly event. Hopefully more people will be able to attend. Help me out with the timezone thing though, as I'm not sure if I have it right...

EST = Eastern Standard Time (Canada & US)
Britain is 5 hours ahead of EST
Australia is 15 hours ahead EST
Central time (US&Canada) is 1 hour behind EST
Pacific Time (US&Canada) is 3 hours behind EST

So, If I have this right, when it's 5pm EST here, then it is 10pm in Britain, 4pm in Central, 2pm Pacific, and 8am the next morning in Australia.

Leo,

They don't exist as far as I know (oddly). It *is* possible to use FloEdit to extract BlakeStone graphics, but the palette is totally wrong and the graphics are useless. Importing: same deal...the palette screws up the graphics you import. I'm working on a solution, but someone who knows more of how the palettes work and hex editing is most likely who you need.

Greg told me it was possible to export sounds from Blake Stone and they are of fairly nice quality, maybe that is possible for other games. Gfx? We're still searching...:) You could try using iGrab, but I have no clue as to how to use it (ne1?)

Good luck,

Thanks for posting the graphics Tristan....

I hope more people will contribute to them too.
I have downloaded a set that dla_one had released but I have to cut each one from the sheet and then upload them. I was also going to upload the ones that were going to be used for Rott, but then discarded...

Thanks! Didn't take much time, tho ;). Had them all done within 3 hours. The Hans was done within 2 hours; all I had to do was cut Hans's suit out of the images, give the back a white color and alter the hue from blue to red(+100) with PSP4.

Thanks again. I'll have a go with the elevator stuff too. I'dlove to see what you can spare ;D.

Thanks for the comments. Say, if you still want to figure out when to chat, here's a good thing:

http://www.timeanddate.com

First, ask everyone to post their place of residence(mine's Rotterdam BTW). Then you can select all these at the Personal World Clock and you'll be able to see what time it is where and when. Hope that helps.

Second, I'm working on a new logo for Die Hard Wolfers. If you don't mind, I'll post it soon. It has a dragon on it with the text "Die Hard Wolfers: The UlTiMaTe HiDeOuT!". Maybe you want it?

Hi all,

I didn't realise there was a public domain gfx area - where abouts do I find it?

I plan to make all my own gfx freely available after MCS and I have finished SOD2. Actually, I was going to use my own site as a "library" for them.

Tristan tells me your gfx work is pretty good Ian - but to be honest I don't think I've seen any. What add ons etc have you made (Giftkrieg hasn't been finished, has it)?

We can move the chat to an IRC server if Steve can't get to the chat via the site. I have got a channel registered on the dalnet server called DieHardWolfers... So... we can always do the chat there to include everyone..

Let me know what the group concensus is...

Actually I'd canceled Giftkrieg as a project because I didn't like where it was going. However I am working on a new project which is going to be fairly small and will actually be released (and much better than where GK was progressing) :) I'm focusing primarily on graphics now, but not many have been made due to time constraints. Giftkrieg was just going all over and not in the direction I wanted exactly :)

Once I make a few more graphics, I'll send you a few as a preview to show you what I can do. I've started using some better programs lately and they are helping a lot (currently I have one sort of "basement" wall I made that I am in love with :).

Thanks also Brian - yep, I forgot to look down the list where it said "Sunday" in Aus :) I'll be at work starting 8.30am Sunday (I'm a shift worker), which btw is Eastern Standard time (daylight saving ends tonight which means we "go back" one hour) - I'll give the chat one more go, but don't think I'll have any luck.

This doesn't mean that I wont change ANY levels, just the ones I need to change will be changed.

I've also decided to make a WolfEx 2!! Just like the original, it will be a SOD TC. It will have many source changes just like WolfEx and new GFX as well.

I don't have any plans for a WolfEx Special Edition or WolfEx 3 yet, but maybe in the distant future!

The main thing that got me on the right direction was looking at the ifdef and ifndef statements. Removing all the parts of the code that were specific to another version helped solve the problem with the abnormal program terminations.

Even though those portions of the code should not be included in the final compile, they do affect the way the exe is compiled. Even John C. said in the release text that the code was messy with too many ifdef and such..

anyhow... it removed the barrier that I was having in completing my code changes and i thank you for the nudge in the right direction...

Maybe I should have had a few of those beers... Lol

These times are the same time but in different time zones. I usually am in the room about 1 hour before the start time in my timezone (Eastern Canada/US).

I hope to see everyone there... as Everyone is welcome. And don't be scared away by those of us who like to talk code...

Hope to see you there...

Whew! I haven't been here in ages it seems ;) Work on CW IV is still underway. The layout is pretty much 99.9% finalized (got to change some of the JavaScripts and correct the links and I'm working on a better navigation menu for the Editorials section...that'll take no time). Primarily now it's the text, tutorials, source information and all that jazz. I'll focus on that this weekend and maybe make some progress. I think this site will be pretty good when it's done and at least better than CW III. I believe all who have seen the index layout agree :)

Haven't touched the source in about 3 weeks, lol. It's going well, but in this time I've forgotten some points of my code so I'll have to take a refresher course on it, so to speak ;) As for as public domain graphics...uhm, yeah, those too ;) I have done nothing, sadly, for the club as I have no clue where to start. I might have to post some older graphics I did and leave them up to you all to change them or use them as bases for something as they are not very "awesome" really. If anyone has any suggestions as for what wall types you think would benefit the community, please let me know as I'm a little blank for inspiration.

Well, I'll post later. I hope to make the chat this weekend, but if I don't, have fun you guys and lemme know what I missed! ;)

But then I seemed to get not one but 2 seperate message boxes (both different in appearance), and he didn't seem to be getting all my replies. OK, I'm obviously doing something wrong (ie: reading the online help would probably help but I can't be bothered yet - guess I'm one of those impatient types that "plays first, reads later" :) Don't know yet whether I'll keep it or uninstall it - I'll give it a few more goes over the coming weeks I guess.
At least when I used ICQ for the first time it was straight forward and dead easy.
Oh well, the weekly chat runs OK without Messenger (or at least it did for me anyway), so that's the main thing I guess.

Take care all,
Steve

Ian,
Actually, I installed MSN just after Messenger, as MCS said to try it. I'll do a search for you next time I try it (of course I can't now as I'm using the net from work - lucky me :)

I think Messenger, MSN and ICQ are enough message proggies for now...!

The chat is held each Weekend here at the club.
Yahoo is currently experiencing some problems so if it doesn't list people being in chat when you view the page, join anyhow... Chances are that we are there...

What time... well, I visited the world time clock again, and here are the times:

Saturday

11:00pm - Amsterdam/Rotterdam
10:00pm - UK - England, Ireland, Scotland
05:00pm - Eastern Canada/Us
04:00pm - Central Canada/Us
02:00pm - Pacific Canada/Us

Sunday

01:00am - Moscow - Russia
07:00am - Sydney Australia
09:00am - New Zealand

These times are the same time but in different time zones. I usually am in the room about 1 hour before the start time in my timezone (Eastern Canada/US).

I hope to see everyone there... as Everyone is welcome. And don't be scared away by those of us who like to talk code...

Hope to see you there...

Dear Greg, how about these times?

09:00pm - Amsterdam/Rotterdam
08:00pm - UK - England, Ireland, Scotland
03:00pm - Eastern Canada/Us
02:00pm - Central Canada/Us
12:00am - Pacific Canada/Us
23:00pm - Moscow - Russia

Sunday
05:00am - Sydney Australia
07:00am - New Zealand

This way it'll be better to follow for the Dutch, UK and Russia residents. Plus at that time I can chat longer before my eyes close ;)

Please take these in consideration... Thanks in advance.

I did take the times into consideration when I posted them... I know it's a little on the late side for you, but your times put Australia and New Zealand into times where they are sleeping.

From what I understand, there is no-one from Russia in the chat. But Areyep (from Australia) does attend the chat and changing the time earlier than 7am his time would be unfair to him too.

I didn't set the time for the chat with what was best for me. I set the time based on trying to include everyone.

Sorry if that creates a problem for you specifically, but it seems to work for just about all the rest.

Lets see what the rest have to say.. But personally, I have to look at things that include everyone and thus have to vote no to your times.

Greg,
hope it didn't seem like I just shot through from the chat - for some odd reason the message display area of my screen went blank, logging off and back on didn't seem to help either. Better luck next time hopefully.

As for the times, Sunday morning I don't get up until around 0900am, so that's why I will probably only get in the chats from work. Sunday morning is generally VERY quiet at work so it's a good time. When I'm on nighshifts, I finish at 0830, so will probably be able to get in for a hour, and when I'm starting at 0830, will probably be able to get in for an hour also. That gives me 2 to 4 opportunities out of eight to participate.

So, in other words, I'm not overly worried about the times.

When ya live down under, them's the breaks :)

Take care,
Steve

I'm not sure that it can be done without a lot of re-writing of the code. You'd actually have to track killed guards and set timers for respawning them. Not that it can't be done... But I can't see it being done that easily in the current code.

Do you mean the Status Bar?

If yes... first you need to get Floedit and that will allow you to change the graphics used on and for the status bar...

Second, all the code you need to edit to place things on your new bar is in the wl_agent.c file.

In there you will find routines for updating your health, weapon, ammo, keys, score and more..

Hope that helps...

Ok... with the problems that we've been experiencing with the Yahoo Java Chat... It's time that we find a new home for the chat..

I've done some research and found a quiet little server that will meet our needs...

First, you'll need an IRC chat program... Like mIRC or Pirch... Personally, I use mIRC... You can find it at http://www.mirc.co.uk (for those who don't have a chat program. Once you've installed it.. Add the server www.bytecenter.com

ie in mIRC:
Description : Whatever you wish to call it.
IRC_Server: www.bytecenter.com
Port: 6667

Then save... And connect... the room will be DieHardWolfers and my nickname is Tank_Drvr.
I'll also monitor the club chat to direct over those that don't get this message. I hope to see you all there..

The times are the same... unless we get a majority wanting the times to change. Remember when making suggestions that we have people from all over the world visiting..

Any comments... Let me know..

Some sites are being revamped (like Kenny's and Ian's).

The Hideout got deleted due to a serious outage last month on the server it was on. X-human says he will get it back up, but he hasn't done it yet.

Tripod took a dislike to Wolf3D and deleted both Barry's and Gary's sites. Gary's other site is still there though, and Barry has now set up 'The Wolfenstein 3D Vault'.

My news page was down for part of last week due to a server upgrade. This should now work OK.

As Greg says, there are plenty of other sites still there. There are 3 new ones listed at the top of my links page at http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~brlowe/links.htm

From now on, don't trust any person who calls himself MCS beforehand.
Please check if this person is able to speak Dutch. If he pretends to speak Dutch, and the only subject he talks about is cheese, then it's not MCS.
If he tries to convince you that he enabled more than 64 wall tiles in Wolf3D, then it's CERTAINLY not MCS!!

Yes... most of us do... The exe file is the engine but compiled... The source code for the engine is coded in C++ and you must use Borland C++ V3.0 or 3.1 to compile it correctly. It is the PC source... sorry no mac at this time... The source is available from ID's software site... The compiler is available on a few sites.

There is little (if any) code for the shading in wl_draw.c actually! For the most part, the shading can be found in WL_Main.c and lshade.h

If you still can't find what you're looking for in the code, try searching for the name FLO because he's commented EVERYTHING he's changed.

Also, what do you mean "All fucked"? Are you getting error messages? Explain.

The exe is messed up how? You need to be VERY specific because there are lots of things that could be wrong :P

Does the exe start or does it kick you out right away? are there error when you compile it? If so, what do they say?

One thing i noticed is that if you edit the MEGADEMO code, you are going to get Warnings during the compile because of the things he's done in the WL_Act files.

Also, you should have HIS audio files with the other files because he's added new sounds to the code. As for the new GFX he's added, you could just comment them out.

I always click on Build All. This compiles and builds the whole project at once.

As for where the code is, it's about half way down. You'll see a comment that says FLO's code or something like that. You can't miss it!

Get back to me on what the errors say (if there are errors) or tell me what the exe is doing that is so messed up. It might just be the GFX for all I know! You need to be specific.

Luke,

All I can say is good luck on getting this to work! I think I've tried about four times to get Flo's routines to work...they never work. The last time will be the last time for a long time.

I don't want to screw anyone up but I don't think it's as simple as copying LSHADE.C, LSHADE.H and a few lines from Flo's WL_MAIN.C file. There are A LOT of routines for shading in WL_DRAW.C that I assume need to be copied as well. Then again, as I said, I never got the shading to work, so I could be very wrong...If all else fails try looking for Flo's comments in WL_DRAW.C and maybe you can make sense of them (I certainly couldn't).

Back to page 17 of "C++ For Dummies" for me...

I don't think geocities is shutting down but it was down for a while for construction.

All my web pages were deleted in one whole directory of mine because of this and I now hate geocities more than anything so i hope they do shutdown.

Also, the filemanager in geocities is still under construction causing pages to be deleted and pages to be shown improperly.

Geocities is as good as shutdown. If you have any site hosted at geocities, I would suggest you move them fast before all your hard work is wasted!

Subject: Re: urgent question

#1. Download everything off of Geocities that you uploaded
#2. Upload it to another webserver

I may suggest you use Spaceports, but if you don't have experience with FTP programs then you might want to skip it since you have to FTP everything to your account and it's a bit techy. If you want to take a shot at Spaceports, however, try CrystalFTP as it's a freeware FTP client and the best I've ever tried.

http://www.spaceports.com/
http://www.slaughterhouse.com/ (site has CrystalFTP in its Internet section under FTP progs)

If all else fails, try 50megs.com...but don't rely on it as a download server since I've only had complaints of people not being able to download off of that server (and I have to email them the programs).

I also heard from a visitor to my site that 50megs.com is notorious for deleting anything they deem as "warezy" including TCs, add-ons, etc and of course Abandonware. So I would be cautious of what you'd upload and again, don't rely on it as a download server much.

Hope this was useful.
